The Caribbean’s Best New Hotel Bar is at This All-Inclusive Resort in Antigua

By: Alexander Britell - October 23, 2024

The walls are adorned with vintage posters of the West Indies cricket team. The seating is plush: leather and velvet chairs and sofas. There’s a lovely corner bar counter. There’s a distinct sheen all around the place, and beautiful palm-filled wallpaper.

If you didn’t know it, you’d think you’d walked into an exclusive club in London or New York.

But you’re actually just a short stroll from the beach on the island of Antigua.

This is the Wavy Wicket Pub, and it’s easily the nicest sports bar in the Caribbean: tucked away at The Verandah, one of Antigua’s top adults-only, all-inclusive resorts.

But it’s also the best new hotel bar, well, anywhere in the Caribbean.

If you’re here to watch an event, you’re in for a treat: there are large flat-screen TVs just about everywhere, including a very cool touch: a collection of private viewing “booths” with high-top tables perfect for finding just the right match or game for your personal enjoyment.

The menu includes delicious sharable fare, from beer-battered, cilantro-dusted fish bites to chicken tenders and parmesan French fries.

There’s the signature Long Bay Crafted Beer, brewed on site, with lager, stout and IPA. That’s along with a sweeping, impressive cocktail list: a Singapore Sling, an old fashioned rum punch and a classic Negroni, among other tipples. There’s a full selection of spirits, too, including some English Harbour and El Dorado 12 rum. You can even find a selection of zero-alcohol options, too.

It’s your own private club for the evening.

It’s just a nice place to be – comfortable and luxurious, with just the right lighting and friendly service, a rarefied corner that’s part of The Verandah Antigua’s transformation into a top adults-only resort.

It all adds up to what’s easily the best new hotel bar in the Caribbean — sports bar or otherwise. And at The Verandah, it’s your own daily amenity, your own private club for your vacation.

What about rates? You can stay at The Verandah right now for as low as $490 per night, all-inclusive.
