United Airlines Is Adding New Flights to Mexico and Costa Rica
They’re two of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean Basin: Mexico and Costa Rica, which continue to be white-hot in demand.
Now, United Airlines is adding new routes to buzzing hotspots in each of these countries: Puerto Escondido, Mexico; and San Jose, the gateway to Costa Rica’s many wonders.
In the spring, United will be adding the first-ever flight by any US airline to Puerto Escondido, a hip, fun surf town on the southwestern coast of Mexico. That will be a weekly nonstop flight from Houston (operated by United Express), with service on Saturdays.
Beginning May 22, 2025, United is flying a new nonstop route between San Francisco and San Jose, the seventh US city from which United will be sending travelers to enjoy to the pura vida lifestyle.
Puerto Escondido is one of the country’s hidden gems, with beautiful beaches, a vibrant bar-hopping vibe and, thanks to its location in Mexico’s Oaxaca state, some seriously good food.
As for San Jose, most travelers say that while it’s not the most interesting place in Central America, it is a perfect jumping off point for the real reasons why travelers visit Costa Rica: the wonders of the natural environment.
United says it will be flying to 65 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean next year. That includes highly-anticipated new service between Newark and Dominica, as first reported by Caribbean Journal.
