After years of largely uninterrupted growth, San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport saw a slight decline in September, according to new data from ASUR, which operates Puerto Rico’s primary air hub.

The airport had passenger traffic of 773,296 in September, a decline of 0.8 percent compared to the same month in 2023.

For the year, growth is still strong, at 8.3 percent over the first three quarters of 2023 — and total passenger traffic of 10.04 million, according to ASUR.

While international traffic continued to climb last month, with a 26 percent jump over September 2023, it was domestic US traffic that saw a 3.9 percent reduction.

CJ Expert Take: While it’s not anything notable yet, it’s certainly something to watch after Puerto Rico has been one of the Caribbean’s biggest post-pandemic success stories.
