Winair Is Adding More Flights to the French Caribbean Island of Martinique
The rainforests, the volcano, the rum, the flavor. There’s nowhere in the Caribbean quite like Martinique, whether you’re visiting the Napa Valley of Caribbean Rum or taking a culinary voyage through some of the most fascinating cuisine in the region.
Now, it’s getting even easier to fly to the French Caribbean department of Martinique, with expanded service on regional carrier Winair, which is based in St Maarten.
Beginning Nov. 15, Winair is set to operate new flights between Martinique and four different islands: St Maarten, Saint Lucia, Barbados and Dominica.
St Maarten is, unsurprisingly, the source of most flights, with six total flights each week between the two islands.
But Winair is also adding connectivity from Martinique to Dominica with two weekly frequencies; Barbados, with two frequencies, and Saint Lucia, also with two.
The new flights will “undoubtedly strengthen Martinique’s position as a prime destination in the Caribbean,” Martinique Tourism Authority President Benedicte di Geronimo told Caribbean Journal.
Martinique’s airport officials have been working to improve the island’s connections to the rest of the region (and the US, which has regular flights on American Airlines from Miami), according to Nathalie Sebastien, CEO of Martinique’s Aime Cesaire International Airport, in a statement to Caribbean Journal.
“This new destination launch is in line with our policy of restoring connectivity between Martinique and the neighboring Caribbean islands,” she said.
