Looking for Beaches, Flying Fish and Golf? There’s a New Way to Fly to the Island of Barbados
The rum, the golf, the restaurants, the fish fry. Barbados is a diverse, fascinating island in the southeastern Caribbean, whether you’re looking for a leisurely getaway on the Platinum Coast (here’s one of our favorites) or a villa in the hills.
Getting to Barbados isn’t always easy, though, particularly from the United States. But that is changing this November, with a major new connection from St Maarten — opening up SXM as an easy gateway for flights from the US to the island.
Regional carrier Winair, which lately seems like it’s adding flights all over the Caribbean, is set to launch a new schedule between St Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport and Barbados.
The flights will be operating 10 frequencies per week between St Maarten and Barbados.
That’s along with four weekly frequencies between Barbados and Saint Lucia, two between Barbados and Martinique and another seven on the Dominica-Barbados route.
Andrea Franklin, Barbados’ chief tourism marketing officer, told Caribbean Journal the flights “will have a positive impact on both business and leisure travel, further solidifying Barbados as a premier destination in the region .”
