This Global Cycling Race Is Coming to Nassau in The Bahamas

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 9, 2024

One of the world’s top cycling events is coming to The Bahamas this November, Caribbean Journal has learned.

GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series has added The Bahamas to the 2024 race schedule on Nov. 3.

The competitive long distance is 60.8 miles long with 1,392 ft. of climbing.

“The addition of this major cycling event to The Bahamas’ events calendar showcases our commitment to promoting sports tourism and attracting world-class events to our shores,” said I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. “We are thrilled to welcome GFNY participants and their families to experience the beauty and hospitality of our islands.”

GFNY Bahamas will offer participants two race options, catering to both seasoned athletes and cycling enthusiasts.

The long-distance race will feature two loops of a scenic route, while a medium-distance course will provide a thrilling challenge for those seeking a shorter yet equally rewarding experience.

Both races will start and finish at Goodman’s Bay, a picturesque park that overlooks a stunning white sandy beach and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

“As we welcome GFNY to our beautiful islands, we are not only opening our doors to world-class athletes but also presenting the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes that make The Bahamas a top-tier destination,” said Latia Duncombe, Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. “We are always pleased to take advantage of opportunities to create unique and unforgettable experiences for visitors and residents alike. We look forward to the positive impact this event will have on our local communities.”

“The Islands of The Bahamas are an aspirational destination,” said GFNY President Lidia Fluhme. “A GFNY is the race of your dreams. But GFNY are endurance sports experiences not just for the athletes but also for accompanying family and friends. What could fit that better than The Bahamas?”
