The Ultimate Birding Resort Is Opening Soon On This Caribbean Island

The exact location of the Caribbean’s newest glamping resort is a secret. That’s because the owners of the new Wild Lotus resort want to protect the endangered species that inhabit the area. Because, you see, this isn’t like any resort — glamping or otherwise — you may have encountered.

The 10-tent resort is set inside a rainforest bird sanctuary in St Vincent and the Grenadines, where most of the other guests are Amazona Guildinngils — an endangered species.

But you will find luxury, too: think Egyptian cotton sheets, high-tech coffee percolators, soft beds and the indulgent feeling of complete seclusion.

There’s a wellness focus, too, with Vincentian Ital food, yoga, massages right on the river and forest bathing.

There are just 750 such birds on earth.

All of the tents are perched at the edge of the Grand Sable river on the island of St Vincent, in direct view of the Amazon Guildingil’s natural nesting sites.

So how rare is this bird? There are just 750 on the planet.

“It’s only found here,” St Vincent Tourism Minister Carlos James told Caribbean Journal. “The opportunity to spend ‘me time’ glamping in nature, in the habitat of an endangered species, is as precious as the bird itself.”

You may be familiar with the Wild Lotus brand, which operated for years on the beach in Antigua before announcing its move this year to the Southern Caribbean and St Vincent.

It’s an experience “to tick off your list,” Wild Lotus’ Vennetta Johnston said.

The resort officially opens its doors to guests beginning Dec. 1, with a season running through June 30 of next year.

CJ Expert Take: Wild Lotus has a well-established reputation for glamping in the Caribbean thanks to its many years in Antigua. To us, the company’s newest resort looks very exciting indeed.
