The new Salterra resort opens in February 2025.

The island of South Caicos is about to get a major boost with the debut of Marriott’s highly-anticipated new Luxury Collection resort, Salterra. And just in time for the property’s debut, it’s about to get a whole lot easier to get to the pristine island in Turks and Caicos.

Beginning Feb. 15, American Airlines will launch the first-ever flights between Miami and South Caicos’ Norman B Saunders Airport.

That will make the world’s biggest airline the only US carrier that flies to the island, its second destination within the Turks and Caicos Islands.

What the new Salterra will look like.

“This new service aligns perfectly with our policy vision to diversify the tourism offering and ensure that each island within the Turks and Caicos Islands benefit from the tourism industry,” said Minister of Tourism Josephine Connolly, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.

In fact, the new flights will launch the very same day that Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort and Spa, opens.

“South Caicos has long been a hidden gem of the islands,” said Michael Tibbetts, the developer and Managing Director of Salterra Resort and Spa. “We are thrilled our guests will have the opportunity to fly directly from the U.S. and experience the luxurious amenities of Salterra and the natural beauty of the island within minutes of landing.”

So what do you need to know about Salterra?

The resort will have 100 rooms, with amenities like a destination wellness center, six different food and beverage concepts (including a locally-focused food truck) and even some impressive sustainability efforts, from coral reef restoration to a broad solar array.

The resort has already opened for booking, with stays available for February and March 2025.

The flights between Miami and South Caicos will take about two hours.
