Hyatt Is Opening Its First Caribbean “Centric” Hotel in Puerto Rico 

The beach parties, the mojitos, the all-day scene. San Juan, Puerto Rico’s Isla Verde neighborhood is one of the Caribbean’s buzziest beach towns — and one of its sexiest beaches.

And now it’s about to get a major new hotel. 

Next year, the former Verdanza Hotel in Isla Verde will be relaunched as the new Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde, representing the first-ever Hyatt Centric in the Caribbean — a first for a brand that’s all about urban, flexible hotels in prime destinations. 

The property is undergoing a $25 million enhancement project that will renovate all of the hotel’s rooms, suites and public areas. 

The 223-room hotel is about a block from the sand in Isla Verde. 

So what do you need to know? 

The resort will have a lushly-landscaped pool deck, a large amount of event space and what Hyatt calls a “locally-inspired” eatery and a pool bar. 

Most notably, guests will have access to the Vivo Beach Club, a sprawling destination club that includes everything from restaurants to bars to an on-site microbrewery. 

Highgate Hotels is managing the resort; it will be the company’s fourth in Puerto Rico. 

It’s another new iteration for the former Verdanza, which last underwent a renovation back in 2018, at the time making a push to court millennial travelers — something that will be far easier to do with a vibrant beach club to offer.
