A new-look hotel has opened its doors in the heart of Belize City, Belize, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The Fort George Hotel and Spa is a transformation of the historic Fort George hotel, one that includes 34 new rooms and suites and a “new, contemporary hospitality experience.”

That includes another group of penthouse suites, all of which have full kitchens and living rooms.

Amenities at the Fort George include the Treehouse restaurant and bar, along with a spa called K’IN.

The historic hotel first opened in 1953. It is undergoing more changes, with a complete refurbishment of the original hotel planned — including 110 rooms.

That project is slated to open in phases through winter 2025, according to the property.

“Belize City is known as a business center and serves as a hub for travelers on their way to explore other areas of Belize,” said Edison Trapp, general manager of the Fort George Hotel and Spa. “However, the city is transforming where visitors are finding that Belize City has much more to offer with great dining, culture, and access to nearby activities. The Fort George Hotel is poised to be at the center of this revitalization, and we want to showcase Belize City as a destination, not only as a stopover but for those who want to stay and develop a deeper connection to the country and the Fort George area.”

The property is set about 30 minutes from Belize’s international airport.
