Surinam’s national flag carrier Surinam Airways has inaugurated a brand-new route between Miami and the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Surinam Airways is operating the service on a somewhat varied schedule, with flights as many as three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but in some weeks only Mondays and Wednesdays.

The service is launching with fares as low as $240 one-way, according to Surinam’s Web site.

The flight takes about two hours and 50 minutes from Miami to Curacao.

The new route is another addition for Curacao’s buzzing tourism industry, which just got a boost with the long-awaited return of Delta Air Lines out of Atlanta

Surinam Airways has a small but growing network of flights within the wider Caribbean and South America (along with Amsterdam-Paramaribo service).

The company also serves Aruba and Paramaribo out of Miami.
