The fast-growing cruise hotspot in the Dominican Repubilc’s Puerto Plata just broke its single-day record for passenger arrivals.

On Wednesday, the combined ports of Taino Bay and Amber Cove in Puerto Plata reported 27,313 cruise passenger arrivals, the most in one day in the destination’s history.

Five boats docked in Puerto Plata, led by the Carnival Celebration ship, which brought in 6,275 passengers.

That was joined by Carnival Vista, Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas, Norwegian Encore and Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady.

One of the Caribbean’s newer ports, Puerto Plata has quickly become a popular stop for the major cruise lines mostly sailing out of Miami.

That growth has helped the Dominican Republic top 9 million combined cruise and air arrivals so far this year, another record for the country.
