This isn’t the Cable Beach of yesteryear. But its “place to be status” in the Bahamas and well beyond is ticking up here in 2023.
Circa 70 years ago, this 14-mile white sand stretch west of Nassau’s epicenter was the setting for the island’s first hotel with air conditioning and its largest casino, The Emerald Beach Hotel. The area experienced a boom, with dozens of primarily hotel properties filling in the expanse before being visibly paused by the country’s successful push for independence from the United Kingdom in the 70s and subsequent government purchasing of failed hotels.
