Puerto Rico’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is the busiest airport in the Caribbean, according to new data from analytics firm ForwardKeys.

The airport, which has seen sizzling passenger traffic growth so far in 2023, is the 80th-busiest airport the world — up from 110th place in 2019.

The second busiest? Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which has seen 32 percent growth since 2019, followed by another Dominican airport, Las Americas in Santo Domingo, which has seen 58 percent growth in outbound traffic since before the pandemic.

Coming in third is Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, reporting what ForwardKeys called “notable progress.”

“Improved air connectivity is a game-changer for Caribbean economies, unlocking unparalleled opportunities for travel retail and hospitality businesses growth. By attracting a surge in tourists, it catalyzes economic expansion, drives retail demand, and fosters a thriving business ecosystem. This surge in connectivity not only boosts revenue streams but also fuels infrastructure development and creates employment, making it a pivotal driver of economic prosperity for businesses in the Caribbean region” says Juan A. Gomez Garcia, Head of Market Intelligence at ForwardKeys.
