The Dominican Republic has quietly become a new aviation hub in the Caribbean in recent years, with several new airlines popping up to serve the regional market.

That includes carriers like Arajet and SKYhigh Dominicana, both based in Santa Domingo, which continue to add new routes for intra-regional travelers. The latest? St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, where Skyhigh is set to launch new nonstop flights from Santo Domingo next month.

Beginning Dec. 13, SKYHigh will be launching roundtrip flights between the Dominican capital and St Croix’s Henry E. Rohlsen Airport.

For now, the service will be operating once weekly on Wednesdays.

The St Croix-Santo Domingo route has a flight time of about an hour.
