Delta Air Lines is adding nonstop flights to a new destination in the Caribbean next year: the Mexican Caribbean hotspot of Tulum.

Tulum, Mexico is set to unveil a brand-new airport called Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, and Delta will be the first international carrier serving it.

Beginning in late March 2024, Delta will be adding nonstop service between its Atlanta hub and Tulum.

The new route — and the new airport — are a big boost for a destination that has become one of the most sought-after getaways in the Caribbean Basin, despite being more than two hours from Cancun International Airport.

“Delta is uniquely positioned to give customers convenient and direct access from the U.S. to Tulum, a premium leisure destination known for its boutique hotels, Mayan ruins and eco-friendly spirit,” said S.V.P. of Network Planning Joe Esposito. “We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers – and now without a two-hour drive from Cancun – as we grow our footprint in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan region.”

The inaugural flight will kick off on March 28, 2024, with service operating year-round on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 160 seats. That includes first class, Delta Comfort+ seats and main cabin options.

Delta’s partner, AeroMexico, will begin flying to Tulum in December out of Mexico City.

Tulum just welcomed major new hotel this month with the debut of the new Secrets Tulum, part of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection.
