Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines is adding another new nonstop route to the Caribbean, part of the carrier’s push to open up connectivity to the region from smaller US markets.

The newest one? Wilmington Airport, which will soon see new nonstop flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The new flight will begin operating in November, with one-way fares starting at $99, according to the company.

It’s yet another boost in seats for Puerto Rico, which has been seeing continued air traffic growth for much of the last three years.

It will officially kick off on Nov. 15, with twice weekly service on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Avelo first launched in February, a transformation of the former Vacation Express brand.

Avelo Airlines Founder, Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said the new route was a sign of “how Avelo is inspiring travel across the region with an irresistible mix of popular destinations.”

The launch comes after Avelo just announced plans for Caribbean flights from another smaller airport, New Haven, where it is launching San Juan service in November as well.

More importantly, it’s a sign of the growing demand for the Caribbean across the US, beyond traditional hubs like New York, Miami and Chicago and into emerging markets like Austin, Texas, Minneapolis and a range of East Coast cities.

That includes the West Coast, too, which is seeing strong growth from carriers like Cayman Airways and Alaska Airlines to the Caribbean, too.
