Even for the Caribbean Basin’s hottest tourism destination, July was a bit of a cool down.

Cancun passenger traffic grew by 4.9 percent in July, still positive growth but slower than its trend for much of 2023, according to new data from ASUR, which manages Cancun International Airport.

While domestic passenger traffic grew by 8 percent over last year to 1.118 million, international traffic grew by just 3.2 percent, with traffic at 1.898 million for the Mexican Caribbean destination.

That meant

For the year, passenger traffic in Cancun is still up a strong 12.4 percent, with a total of 19,655.861.

Cancun has seen dramatically good tourism performance since it reopened for tourism in the summer of 2020, outpacing much of the hemisphere and seeing continued growth in new air routes.
