Cancun International Airport’s passenger traffic has already topped the 16 million mark this year, according to new data from ASUR, which manages the airport.

It’s a sign of the Mexican Caribbean destination’s continued tourism growth throughout the pandemic.

Cancun has reported passenger traffic of 16.63 million so far this year, a 13.8 percent increase over the first half of 2022, according to the company.

That included 5.6 million in passenger traffic domestically, along with 11.035 million in international traffic.

Domestic traffic was up 20.7 percent, while international traffic was up 10.6 percent in the first half.

Cancun has been one of the hottest destinations on the globe since it first reopened for tourism in 2020, attracting a multitude of new flights and cementing its place as a regional tourism powerhouse.

That’s accompanied by an ever-growing hotel pipeline, with particularly strong development growth in the Riviera Maya and Costa Mujeres.
