The Western United States has become an increasingly important source market for the Caribbean in recent years, leading to a new trend of nonstop flights from the West Coast and Mountain West of the United States since the travel paradigm shift of the pandemic. Now one of the region’s most popular destinations is getting its first-ever route from California.

JetBlue has announced plans to launch the first-ever nonstop flight between Los Angele and The Bahamas, with a new route to Nassau kicking off this fall.

The new nonstop flight will be running once weekly on Saturdays, beginning Nov. 4, including JetBlue’s popular Mint Cabin service option.

““We are continuing to see a strong visitation to Nassau Paradise Island from Los Angeles, and we are excited to expand access and offer the first nonstop flight from LAX in the history of the destination,” said Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board. “Nassau and Paradise Island are the perfect getaway for those on the West Coast craving a tropical vacation with our white sand beaches, turquoise waters, world-class resorts and unmatched Bahamian hospitality. We are so pleased with the partnership with JetBlue, and excited to celebrate this milestone in driving tourism to The Bahamas.”

The new service will only strengthen Nassau’s ongoing tourism renaissance, which has seen surging tourism numbers throughout 2023.

“Nassau is a very popular destination among our customers, and we are thrilled to launch the first nonstop flight from Los Angeles to Nassau, pioneering this unique service for an unserved market,” said David Jehn, vice president, network planning and partnerships at JetBlue. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board and introducing the unique offerings of the island to our JetBlue customers.”

JetBlue already flies to Nassau from seven different cities in the United States, including major focus cities like Fort Lauderdale, Boston and New York.

The new route is part of a growing trend toward flights from California and the broader West Coast of the US, including last year’s debut of Los Angeles-Grand Cayman flights on Cayman Airways and more and more flights from western cities like Denver to the Caribbean
