Caribbean Hotel and Resort Investment Summit Kicks Off in Miami
The region’s premier hotel and resort conference has kicked off in Coral Gables, Fla. this week.
The 14th edition of the Caribbean Hotel and Resort Investment Summit is being held this week at the Loews Hotel in the Coral Gables neighborhood of Miami, bringing together a high-level group of developers, hotel owners, investors and executives from across the industry.
This year’s event is bringing together more than 400 delegates, about one-third of whom are either presidents, CEOs or owners.
The opening day of the conference included a kick-off by BHN Group President Jeff Higley, followed by a presentation from Nicola Madden-Greig, the president of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, who updated the audience on the latest data and trends in the region.
That included strong numbers on the region’s resilience — data from flight analytics firm ForwardKeys showed the region has come back from the pandemic stronger than any other part of the world — with the Caribbean reaching its pre-pandemic visitor numbers this year — compared to the rest of the world, where tourism numbers are still down 31 percent as compared to 2019.
The opening agenda also included the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award for Nick and Karolin Troubetzkoy, the owners of the Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet resorts in Saint Lucia.
Breakout sessions included several high-level discussions on hotel market trends and sectors like all-inclusive, along with investment agency presentations from destinations including Turks and Caicos and Belize.
