Cancun is leading travel demand among Americans this summer, according to new data from travel giant Expedia.

Cancun is the number one international destination for U.S. travelers this summer, outpacing global hotspots like London, Rome and Paris, among others.

Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was the other Caribbean destination to place in the top five.

While average flight ticket prices remain higher than last summer, strong demand trends show travelers are “ready to make the most out of their summer vacations,” Expedia said in its report.

“This summer, travelers are clearly ready to dust off their passports and embrace jet lag as they set off overseas,” said Melanie Fish, a spokesperson for Expedia Group.

The data are based on Expedia demand as of the beginning of this month. The numbers cover travel during June to August 2023.

Cancun has been one of the hottest travel destinations in the hemisphere since the onset of the pandemic, with continued growth in new airlift and surging visitation numbers.
