Barbados Readying for Caribbean Travel Marketplace

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 6, 2023

The Caribbean’s biggest travel conference is coming to Barbados this May, with the return of Caribbean Travel Marketplace.

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s signature event will be held May 9-11 on the island, just the second time it has ever been held in Barbados.

The event “represents and showcases our region’s and association’s ability to transform, change and reinvent to meet the ever-changing needs, demands and realities of this dynamic industry,” said Barbados-based hotelier Patrica Affonso-Dass, who runs the island’s Ocean Hotels Group.

This year’s format helps hoteliers and tourism stakeholders connect not just with buyers and suppliers but also serves to “highlight the link with artisans, manufacturing, agriculture and the smaller but critically important players that make up the fabric of Caribbean tourism.”

“Caribbean Travel Marketplace allows us to bring this all together and showcase the region to our partners and the world in a way that is very difficult to do individually,” said Affonso-Dass, who was born in Dominica, raised in Guyana, and now lives in Barbados.

This year’s edition of Marketplace will be held at Barbados’ Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

“Each of our members is unique, special and compelling, but all together this region represents tremendous value and importance not just to our individual economies, but also to the revenues of the partners who sell the Caribbean – both land-based and cruise,” Affonso-Dass.

Registration is now open.
