In the Riviera Maya, a New Kind of Wellness Vacation

Andaz Mayakoba

There’s a new way to take a wellness vacation in the Riviera Maya.

The Andaz Mayakoba luxury resort has debuted a broad new wellness offering, from new spa itineraries to health cuisine.

Recently introduced options for guests’ health-focused itineraries include Yucatán Peninsula-inspired spa treatments, personalized sessions with the on-site shaman and beachfront silent yoga along the Caribbean shore.

At the full-service Naum Wellness and Spa, a range of unique Mayan-inspired treatments are offered in a lush jungle setting with pristine ocean views.

Guests can create their own ritual to optimal wellness, tied to an intention: He’lel (rest), Tsoolik (clarity), He’lel (rest), Muuk’ (strength), or Molcintah (connection).

New this year, Naum has added rejuvenating rituals using locally sourced ingredients, such as Melipona Honey Massage and Mask Ritual, in which Melipona honey from stingless bees, native to the Yucatán Peninsula and used by Mayan healers, are used in this treatment for a full-body massage and face mask.

Guests can also enjoy an Herbal Detox Massage, in which aromatherapy reduces stress with a blend of anti-inflammatory herbs.

With the Cacao & Coffee Body Treatment, powerful antioxidants found in Mayan cacao and coffee blend to promote youth and relaxation.

Also available are an After Sun treatment with Aloe vera and cucumber to hydrate skin, promote a cooling effect and reduce redness after beach days, as well as a Grape Stem Cell & White Tea Hydration Wrap, a three-part series in which dry brush exfoliation promotes lymphatic flow, followed by a grape stem cell, white tea and seaweed body butter wrap and concluded with a soothing scalp massage.

Guests can further immerse themselves in the rich spirituality of Mayan culture with Fernanda Montiel, Andaz Mayakoba’s resident shaman.

With generations’ worth of practices learned from her grandmother, Montiel creates one-of-a-kind mind-body-spiritual experiences for guests to deeply connect with their surroundings.

Her signature rituals are focused on the number three, where each has a beginning, middle and end.

Montiel offers a Spiritual Session, a Shamanic Session and a Mayan Meditation.

The Andaz has also added beachfront silent yoga, where guests have unobstructed views of the pristine white sand and Caribbean Sea in a one-hour class.

Available to novice and veteran yogis alike, each will receive noise-canceling headphones for uninterrupted focus as the instructor guides movements through meditative playlists, allowing for participants to fully focus inward.

Gourmands who savor every bite of their travels can indulge in the Mexican culinary scene with vegan offerings at the resort’s award-winning eateries Sotavento and Casa Amate, as well as the fully vegan menu at VB.

Healthy and indulgent menu options include Estofado de Platano: roasted bananas in coconut milk with heirloom tomatoes; Casa Amate’s Yellow Soup with coconut, heart of palm, white tapioca, walnuts and a passion fruit reduction; and the signature VB Wrap: stuffed chaya leaves with sweet potato, alfalfa sprout, soybeans and a spicy pumpkin seed sauce.
