The US Virgin Islands has tapped professional golfer Alexandra Swayne as an official ambassador, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Swayne will help bring awareness to the USVI and its solid golf offering, headlined by a trio of courses on the island of St Croix.

That is headlined by the excellent 18-hole course at the Buccaneer Resort, joined by the Carambola Golf Club and the nine-hole Reef club on the East End.

Swayne took up golf at age 14 as part of the USVI Golf Federation’s junior program; in a short period she took her game to the professional ranks, including qualifying for the US Women’s Open.

“Promoting USVI is such a great opportunity for me as I can pair my love of my hometown and its gorgeous courses with what I love to do and that is to play golf,” she said.

Swayne is currently a member of the Ladies European Tour, but regularly returns to the USVI to practice and run golf clinics for youth.

“We are delighted to have Alexandra on board as one of our official ambassadors. Her vivaciousness and natural leadership will help the USVI shine as a golf destination for all ages and talent,” said Joseph Boschulte, commissioner of the USVI Department of Tourism. “Alexandra will participate in events, advertising campaigns, marketing and promotional materials, live streams and interviews, and events all the while showcasing the islands’ natural beauty and culture.”
