No carrier has been adding more flights to Puerto Rico since the beginning of the pandemic than Frontier Airlines.

Now, the ultra-low-cost carrier is at it again, with plans to add new routes to three different airports in Puerto Rico.

The expansion will include a total of seven new nonstop routes from cities across the continental United States.

“Puerto Rico is a hugely popular destination for leisure travelers as well as the large population of Puerto Ricans residing in the U.S. who enjoy returning to the island to visit friends and family,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial at Frontier Airlines. “It is a fantastic vacation destination with stunning beaches, historical sites and the one-of-a-kind El Yunque National Forest. For those with family and friends on the island, we’re offering more options than ever to fly affordably and conveniently between a multitude of major cities and Puerto Rico.”

The Puerto Rico expansion will include new flights from Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth to San Juan, all of which will kick off in the first week of May.

Cleveland and Detroit service will run four times each week; Chicago-San Juan flights will run six times per week, while Dallas and Baltimore-Washington flights will run daily.

Frontier is also launching thrice-weekly flights between Orlando and Ponce, Puerto Rico, with service launching May 4.

That will be joined by a new route between Tampa, Fla. and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, with flights running three times each week beginning May 4.

Fares on the flights will start as low as $49 each way, the company said.

“We thank our Frontier partners for once again demonstrating their commitment to our destination,” said Carlos Mercado, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. “The addition of new nonstop routes between Puerto Rico and seven cities in the United States and Cancun, Mexico, significantly expands the options for visitors to the Island. At the same time, we celebrate the expansion of operations to the Mercedita International Airport in Ponce, which will certainly boost tourism activity and the economy of the southern region.”

Including the new service, Frontier will be operating 19 different nonstop routes to Puerto Rico.

The company said the push aimed to meet the “increased demand among leisure travelers and visiting friends and relatives traveling to and from the popular Caribbean island.”
