Cancun continues to buzz as the destination reports record-breaking tourism numbers, a wave of visitors to accompany the Mexican Caribbean’s seemingly endless hotel pipeline.

And now the area has another new resort: Spanish hotel giant Riu Hotels and Resorts has debuted a new adults-only resort in the Hotel Zone of Cancun: the all-inclusive, adults-only Riu Palace Kukulcan.

The all-inclusive beach resort gets its name from Kukulkan, one of the most important deities in the ancient Mayan pantheon, along with the name of a legendary Mayan priest at the city of Chichen Itza. (If you saw the recent Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, you might recognize K’uk’ulkan as the original name of the antagonist Namor.)

The company’s newest resort in the Mexican Caribbean has more than 400 rooms; amenities include four pools, a gym, a daytime entertainment schedule, regular live music and entertainment at night and a Renovation Spa.

Most notably, it’s Riu’s only adults-only resort in Cancun proper, the company’s eighth hotel in the greater Cancun area.

In all, Riu now has 14 different resorts on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, including six in Playa del Carmen.

The Riu Palace Kukulkan also has the company’s new Elite Club by Riu, a premium wing that includes dedicated check-in ares, confirmed late checkout until 1 PM, in-room aromatherapy, upgraded minibars and access to higher-level spirits at certain bars on property.

The Elite Club rooms also come with an “upgraded” version of Riu’s signature in-room liquor dispenser.

Dining concepts range from a poolside burger bar to a la carte Italian, Mexican and Asian eateries, along with an international restaurant with live cooking stations.

Guests at the Kukulkan also have access to the facilities of nearby Riu resorts in greater Cancun.
