The Bahamas Has a New Luxury Beach Resort on Cable Beach

Cable Beach.

It was one of the original tourist destinations in The Bahamas: the sugar-white sands of Cable Beach, a jet-set getaway in the 1950s and a hotspot that has lived a multitude of lives in the last century.

That ranges from the days of the old Emerald Beach Hotel and Casino to the Crystal Palace to Cable Beach’s newest identity, as the home of the Baha Mar mega resort.

Recent years have seen another transformation, beginning with the Baha Mar and continuing with a growing pipeline of luxury real estate projects, one of which just opened as The Bahamas’ newest luxury resort.

It’s called the Goldwynn Resort and Residences, and it is a new kind of beach hotel for the island: a residential resort with large, fully-equipped rooms and a boutique beachfront personality.

The rooms range from studios to suites, all with sleek, elegant interiors, either kitchenettes or full kitchens, and views of either the ocean or the nearby Royal Blue golf course.

Sizes range from 530-square-foot studios to the centerpiece 1,950-square-foot Goldwynn Suite.

The hotel is also part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio and owned by the Wynn Group of Companies (not the Wynn you know from Las Vegas, though; this company is based in Toronto).

The new resort bills itself as a new destination called the “Riviera Bahama,” a nod to Cable Beach’s beginnings, when the beach was known as the Bahamian Riviera.

So what’s it like?

The Goldwynn has signature spa and four food and beverage concepts: a coffee lounge called Atria; a pool eatery called Amara; a cocktail bar, Bar Paul; and the signature PIA restaurant, a mix of Peruvian and Mediterranean flavors.

It’s the latest addition to the new-look Cable Beach, which has also seen a number of other real estate projects in the last few years along with the debut of the recently-reinvigorated Sandals Royal Bahamian.

It’s helped buoy a tourism resurgence in The Bahamas, one that is expected to continue into 2023 — and soon eclipse the destination’s prior tourism records set before the pandemic
