The Dominican Republic’s most popular all-inclusive destination just set an all-time record for passenger traffic.

Punta Cana International Airport just topped 8 million passenger movements for 2022, an all-time record for the Dominican Republic’s highest-volume airport.

“We celebrate 8 million passengers, which represent 8 million adventures, smiles, new ways of seeing life, family reunions and happy vacations from each of the passengers who have created memories through our airport,” said Frank Elías Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana.

The record-breaking total comes as the airport celebrates its 39th anniversary.

Today, more than 65 percent of all passengers visiting the Dominican Republic arrive through Punta Cana.

The airport is currently in the midst of a major expansion project to the tune of $80 million.

That includes an expansion of Punta Cana’s Terminal B, which will ultimately be able to handle 3 million passengers itself each year.

Completion is slated for next month.
