Marriott’s Aloft Just Opened a Hotel in Playa del Carmen

It’s one of the hottest beach towns in Mexico, and now it’s home to one of the fastest-growing hotel brands in the Caribbean.

Marriott’s Aloft Hotels brand has opened its first-ever hotel in the Yucatan beach town of Playa del Carmen. And it’s, well, a bit more than your typical Aloft.

You might even call it a mini “W” hotel.

The new Aloft Playa del Carmen is a block away from the bustling Quinta Avenida, Playa’s main thoroughfare, and the features, look and vibe are decidedly cool.

The hotel has 167 rooms has all of the signatures of Aloft properties: the WXYZ bar and Re:mix lounge, along with a living-room style lobby with pool and a grab-and-go eatery.

The hotel is also home to an international cuisine eatery called Nook, along with what is the centerpiece of the Aloft Playa del Carmen: the Splash Rooftop, with two infinity pools and a “lounge atmosphere,” according to the property.

Marriott says the hotel is also convenient for digital nomads: three of the hotel’s meeting rooms have audiovisual tech and high-speed Wi-Fi; another two spaces work well for videoconferencing.

The hotel also has a Camp Aloft kids’ program, a pet-friendly program and a regular slate of local musicians.

But it’s the Splash Rooftop that’s worth the trip alone, a stunning, high-design pools cape that’s the sort of rooftop experience you find at far more expensive and luxurious resorts (hence the mention of the mini W.”)

Aloft has been adding a number of new hotels in the Caribbean, including recently-debuted properties in destinations like Puerto Rico and the nearby Mexican Caribbean hotspot of Tulum.
