Hyatt’s New Panama Hotel Completes Final Phase

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 10, 2022

Hyatt’s new hotel in Panama has completed the final phase of what has been a seven-year project.

The new Hotel La Compañía, set in the charming Casco Viejo quarter of Panama City, has completed its “American Wing,” including four of the hotel’s food and beverage outlets.

That includes American Bazaar, Capella, Luigi’s, and Hari’s; Hyatt says it hopes the wing becomes a new entertainment and dining destination in the Casco Viejo.

The new eateries join 1739, a French fine-dining outlet with a 300-year-old wine cellar; El Santuario, an all-day dining outlet meant to evoke a Spanish church; La Panaderia, the hotel’s bakery; and Exilio, its lobby bar

The new wing is inspired by the “American period” of the construction of the Panama Canal.

The hotel officially opened its doors earlier this year.

“The debut of the American Wing is an exciting time for our team,” said General Manager Fidel Reyes. “When we set out to create the hotel experience, the layout and architecture of the structure told us what we needed to do to bring that building to life. We worked hard to create a space that stayed true to the historical integrity of the building while providing a modern experience. We’re thrilled with how it has all come together with the Spanish and French Colonial Wings to tell an amazing story about Panama through art and design.”

It’s a significant boost for an historic quarter that has become arguably the top draw for visitors to Panama’s capital.

The Casco Viejo is getting another major injection of energy next year when Sofitel opens its highly-anticipated new Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Panama, which is debuting in January.
