A New Rooftop Hotspot in Playa del Carmen

One of Playa del Carmen’s coolest hotels has added a sizzling new rooftop hotspot.

It is called UMI Rooftop + Tokyo Kitchen, and it’s the newest addition to the ultra-chic Thompson Playa del Carmen in the heart of the Mexican Caribbean’ most hopping beach town.

The Japanese Izakaya-style eatery, helmed by Chef Roman Osamu, officially opened its doors this week.

The eatery features sashimis, makis and nigiris, along with plates like grilled octopus and salmon teriyaki.

“Japanese cuisine always uses local and seasonal products, since the freshest foods have much better flavor and nutritional properties,” said Chef Román Osamu. “This is the true essence of what Japanese cuisine is for me.”

The hotel says the restaurant “transports diners to Japan in the midst of Eastern Mexico,” with a multi-sensory experience.

That’s along with a regular slate of DJs and live performers, pairing perfectly with sakes, beers and cocktails.

The new concept joins the existing Cinco and Alessia Rooftop and Dayclub at the Thompson.
