La Casa de la Playa in the Riviera Maya.

Whether you are just traveling alone with your significant other or you’ve managed to get a break from the wonderful, grueling work that is parenting, you won’t have trouble finding great adults-only resorts in the Caribbean. They’re the places that serve as welcome oases, either wonderfully quiet or blissfully energetic, depending on the kind of experience you’re searching for.

But while the region is filled with large adults-only resorts of the all-inclusive variety, it’s a bit more difficult to find one that’s boutique, where the adults-only experience is served up in a more intimate, small-batch style.

But they’re out there, and in a nod to the growing demand for adults-only properties, many of the newest adults-only hotels in the Caribbean are precisely that.

In fact, it’s one of the hottest trends in the Caribbean: the boutique adults-only hotel.

Here are our favorite new boutique adults-only hotels in the Caribbean, from villa-style inns in the British Virgin Islands to a full-fledged overwater resort. They’re all new, they’re all unique and they’re all the perfect choice for your next adults-only getaway.

Nayara Bocas Bali, Panama Nayara has found fame for its eco-luxe portfolio in Costa Rica, and now it’s officially expanded to the Caribbean, with a full-fledged overwater resort in the heart of Panama’s Bocas del Toro archipelago. It’s a stunner, with 16 overwater units, a pair of restaurants and what it bills as the world’s first “overwater beach,” an elevated platform set on stilts and filed with white sand.

La Casa de la Playa, Riviera Maya Xcaret is best known for its innovative eco-park in the Yucatan Peninsula. But it’s quickly expanding its hotel portfolio, first with the celebrated Hotel Xcaret and now with something special, La Casa de la Playa, a design-forward, gourmet hotel in the heart o the Riviera Maya. There are just 63 suites here, all with a party piece: every single one comes with its own private plunge pool.

Aire de Olive, Puerto Rico Loisse Herger and Fernando Davila have done it again. The wife and husband team of Puerto Rican hoteliers have turned the former San Juan Water and Beach Club into a totally new kind of beachfront hotel concept. The look is earthy, sleek and creative, with a prime perch on Isla Verde Beach and a number of units with marvelous, ocean-view pools. And then there is the rooftop, Kumo, which has quickly become one of greater San Juan’s big hotspots.

Kura Botanica, Curacao Set in a collection of 18th-century-era homes across eight blocks in Willemstad, this colorful, charming new addition to Curacao is deliciously relaxed and serene. The whole place is meant to feel like, as the hotel puts it, “an outdoor living room with a homey feel.” That is what you get here, with a boutique-style zen-entry pool and a lovely little spa to boot.

Inn at Cornucopia, British Virgin Islands You won’t find an adults-only hotel like this anywhere in the Caribbean. This new addition to Virgin Gorda is equal parts villa, bed-and-breakfast and boutique hotel, a “country French Caribbean Inn” with just four rooms, a a bright and airy vibe and what’s almost certainly the best breakfast in Virgin Gorda.
