Celebrity Kicks Off Cruise Season in Grenada

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 25, 2022

Celebrity Cruises has helped kick off the beginning of cruise season in Grenada.

The cruise brand’s Celebrity Summit ship brought 1,5000 passengers to the island’s Melville Street port this week, the official start of the winter cruise calendar.

Grenada officials say 202 cruise calls are scheduled this season, with an expected passenger count of 377,394.

That would represent an increase of 11 percent from the island’s all time high set in 2018-2019.

“Grenada is ready for the 2022-23 cruise season,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority. “I preparation, the GTA has facilitated training and workshop sessions focused on professional development, hospitality and cultural engagement sessions, aimed at enhancing service excellence.”

It’s part of what Roach called an “overall strategy to ensure our tourism stakeholders such as taxi operators, artisans and vendors are prepared for the season and will provide high quality, culturally sound and professional services that enhance our destination marketing.”

“Many cruise visitors are repeat visitors who choose to return to the destinations where they have had the best and most authentic experiences,” Roach said. “Our overall growth in this sector speaks to strong consumer interest, our continued focus on expanding our product offering and our commitment to continuous product development and training for our stakeholders’ partners.”
