Avianca is adding a new route to the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The carrier is planning to launch new nonstop service between Miami and the beach destination of Santa Marta.

The new service, which kicks off Dec. 10, will be operating twice weekly, with roundtrip service on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

That adds up to 600 seats per week from Miami, the company said.

While Colombia’s Caribbean coast continues to boom, much of that growth has been concentrated in two cities: Cartagena and Barranquilla, along with the island of San Andres.

Avianca’s long is a sign of the growing interest in other burgeoning beach spots.

It’s also home to one major hotel, the Santa Marta Marriott Playa Dormida
