Norwegian Cruise Line has officially christened its newest ship: Prima, a 965-foot-long, 143,535-ton vessel that’s the first of six ships in the company’s new Prima class.

Prima, which has capacity for 3,100 guests at double occupancy, has what Norwegian says is the largest variety of suite categories at sea.

It also features The Haven by Norwegian, the brand’s keycard-only ship-within-a-ship concept, long with Infinity Beach, an expansive pool complex.

“With her stunning design and unique offerings, Norwegian Prima is in a league of her own,” said Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “As the industry’s most spacious new cruise ship featuring ‘only-available-on-Prima-experiences,’ she is continuing NCL’s legacy of industry firsts.”

Norwegian named singer Katy Perry as the ship’s godmother, with Perry on hand at the ship’s christening ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland this week.

Prima will be sailing in Europe before heading to New York, Galveston and Miami for Caribbean voyages.

In 2023, Prima will homeport in Port Canaveral, followed by a move to a Galveston homeport for the 2024 cruise season.

“We have been eagerly anticipating and preparing for this special event for several years, so we are delighted to embark on NCL’s next chapter with Norwegian Prima,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.
