Tourism is sizzling in Cancun, and the trend is being borne out in the traffic numbers at Cancun International Airport.

Cancun’s air hub reported passenger traffic of 2.876 million in July, representing a 19.9 percent jump over the same month in 2019.

That also represented a 21.2 percent increase over July 2021.

For the first seven months of the year, traffic in Cancun stands at 17.491 million, a 12 percent increase over the first seven months of 2019, before the pandemic.

It’s also 47.2 percent higher than the same period last year, according to ASUR, which manages a portfolio of airports in Mexico.

Overall, ASUR says it saw a 15.6 percent increase in air traffic to Mexico last month compared to July 2019.

Cancun has been the hottest destination in the wider Caribbean since the onset of the pandemic, buoyed by what were the most liberal health protocols in the region.
