Montego Bay, Jamaica is the leading summer “travel recovery city” of 2022, according to a new report from ForwardKeys.

The Jamaican tourism hub is seeing major improvement over what was already a strong period for the destination last summer, according to the report, which was shared by the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism.

Montego Bay’s tourism performance is up 23 percent compared to the summer of 2021.

“At the city level, summer travel recovery is being led by Caribbean destinations namely Montego Bay, Jamaica,” the report said.

Montego Bay was joined by a pair of Caribbean destinations at the top of the rankings: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Cancun, Mexico.

Punta Cana is seeing a 19 percent increase, while Cancun is up 14 percent in the same period.

“Jamaica is bouncing forward from the devastating impact to the sector by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

Jamaica is, he said, “now more than before, poised for a full recovery.”

Jamaica has seen record tourism arrivals and earnings over the last year, according to the government.
