In arguably its best month since the onset of the pandemic, Cancun International Airport reported passenger traffic of 2,490,479 in June, a 14.1 percent improvement over the same month in 2019.
That total also represented a 19.2 percent improvement over June 2021, according to ASUR, which manages the airport.
For the year, Cancun’s passenger traffic now stands at 14.6 million, a 10.6 percent higher total than the first half of 2019 — and a nearly 54 percent jump over the first half of last year.
“Passenger traffic growth in Mexico was driven by both domestic and intentional traffic,” ASUR said in a statement.
Cancun has seen more airlift growth than any other destination in the wider region amid the pandemic, including strong growth from carriers like Frontier Airlines, Southwest and Spirit Airlines.
