For years, the Four Seasons Resort Nevis has partnered with the Sea Turtle Conservancy on a program to help critically endangered sea turtles in Nevis and around the Caribbean.
Three species of sea turtles nest on the shores of Nevis: the Hawksbill, the Leatherback and the Green turtle.
They journey hundreds of miles each year to return to the same beaches where they first hatched, with just one in 1,000 to 10,000 baby sea turtles surviving to adulthood.
“One of the most fascinating aspects of the STC’s work is ongoing research to study the migratory movements of ‘critically endangered’ hawksbill sea turtles after they nest in Nevis,” said David Godfrey, Executive Director of the Sea Turtle Conservancy. “Each year, the partnership between Four Seasons Resort Nevis and the STC aims to educate and create awareness about the protection of these beautiful sea creatures through a joint program that helps researchers study the migration patterns of the endangered species that nest on Nevis’ beaches.”
And now the Four Seasons has stepped things up with what it’s calling the “Sea Turtle Summer Camp” program.
From now through September, the hotel is helping guests embrace the marine life of Nevis, with a series of educational programs and creative activities.
Geared at guests who stay for a week or more, the program includes daily marine biology classes; guided nature walks and beach clean-ups; sea turtle-themed arts and crafts experiences; family land sports activities and even sea-turtle inspired baking activities, among others.
The program also includes a Sea Turtle Adoption Kit from the Sea Turtle Conservancy, which includes a personalized adoption certificate and a Sea Turtle Conservation Guide, among other inclusions.
The property’s relationship with the Sea Turtle Conservancy goes back for more than a decade, supporting cutting-edge research and education to help in both the protection and recovery of the endangered sea turtles that call Nevis home.
