In Nevis, the Caribbean’s Only Mango Festival Is Back

An entire weekend dedicated to a single fruit?

If you’ve ever tasted a mango from Nevis, you understand.

The Eastern Caribbean island is celebrating the return of its signature culinary festival this summer, with the relaunch of the Nevis Mango Festival.

This year’s event will run from July 1 to 3, celebrating the 44 different varieties of mangoes produced on the tiny island.

“With so many different types of mangoes grown here, they are an integral part of Nevisian cuisine,” said Devon Liburd, the Nevis Tourism Authority’s interim CEO. “Each variety has a slightly different look, taste and texture, giving our chefs lots of opportunities to be creative. We believe the Mango Festival is the perfect way to experience a Caribbean vacation with a distinctively Nevisian flavor.”

And yes, it’s all about the mango.

There’s everything from a mango eating contest to a cocktail competition to a wellness zone.

And then there’s the culinary challenge, which pits the island’s top chefs against one another in a battle to develop mango-focused menus.
