The biggest festival in Barbuda is making a comeback this year after a two-year hiatus amid the pandemic.

The Caribana Festival, a four-day celebration of “culture, music and pageantry,” will make its return from June 3-6.

This year’s theme is “revising our culture needs me and you,” according to organizers.

“We promise it will be a weekend full of excitement, food, drinks music and plenty outside,” said Jezette Davis, culture coordinator in Barbuda’s department of tourism, sports and culture.

The festival features everything from a major fishing tournament to horse racing to a beach party to food fair.

“Barbuda’s pink sand beaches, turquoise waters, Magnificent Frigate Bird Sanctuary, and laid-back lifestyle have for years been an attraction for visitors,” said Maria Blackman, marketing communications manager for the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. “Those arriving in Barbuda for the Whit weekend, will be drawn into the vibrant celebrations and revel in the feel-good vibes that will surround Caribana City during the festival.”

The island is now home to Robert De Niro’s Nobu Barbuda (which will soon include a Nobu Beach Inn), and a major project by the Discover Land Company called the Barbuda Ocean Club.
