American Airlines is launching its third destination in Jamaica.
Beginning in November, American will launch its first-ever service to Ian Fleming International Airport in Ocho Rios.
The new service will operate twice weekly between Miami and Ocho Rios, operated on Embraer E175 aircraft operated by Envoy.
And it will make the destination, particularly some of the area’s signature resorts, easier to get to — with the existing driving time between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios standing at just under two hours.
“As we celebrate our 45th anniversary in Jamaica, we are thrilled to launch our third destination in the island, Ocho Rios, becoming the first U.S. airline that offers access to this Caribbean paradise,” said José A. Freig, American’s Vice President of International and Premium Guest Services. “Flight 4007 will connect our customers with Ian Fleming International Airport, just minutes away from some of Jamaica’s most beautiful natural treasures.”
And the 007 in the flight number is no coincidence: Ocho Rios’ airport is famously named for Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, and Ocho Rios is home to a number of stops on the country’s James Bond trail, including the eponymous James Bond Beach and the nearby Goldeneye resort, an Island Outpost resort set at Fleming’s former home outside the city in Oracabessa.
The flights are already available for purchase, according to American Airlines.
American has a broad network of flights to Jamaica, with service to Kingston from Miami and to Montego Bay from cities including Miami, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, New York and Chicago.
In June, American will launch another new route to Jamaica with its first-ever service between Austin, Texas and Montego Bay.
