Secret Bay in Dominica.

It’s an historic day for tourism to the Nature Island.

American Airlines has launched its first-ever nonstop flights from the United States to Dominica — an island heretofore accessible only via intra-regional flights.

American is running the new service twice weekly, with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays; the carrier is operating the flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

And it’s not just a first for American — the new service is the first-ever nonstop service from the North America to Dominica.

Dominica boasts the only Kempinski resort in the Caribbean.

It’s a boon for an island largely considered among the most naturally beautiful in all of the Caribbean, one celebrated for its hiking, diving, adventure and eco-tourism.

That’s along with a growing stock of luxury hotels and resorts, from the renowned Secret Bay Resort and Residences to the recently-debuted Cabrits Kempinski Resort and Spa.

The flights are operated on American’s Embraer ERJ-175 aircraft.

It’s part of a wider Caribbean ramp-up for American, particularly out of Miami.

Indeed, this winter, American will be flying its largest-ever schedule out of Miami, according to Juan Carlos Liscano, Vice President of MIA Hub Operations.

Dominica is currently open for tourism, under the country’s Safe in Nature health and safety program.
