Cruise Rebirth Continues in St Kitts

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 17, 2021

St Kitts marked a major milestone in the rebirth of its cruise industry this week, with three ships docking simultaneously at the island’s Port Zante for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

The three ships were Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Equinox; Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Explorer of the Seas; and AIDA Cruises’ AIDAperla.

It was the first-ever call on St Kitts for AIDAperla.

“This is a momentous occasion for the entire country because it reflects continued confidence that our cruise line partners have in this beautiful Federation,” said Shawn Richards, who was serving as Acting Prime Minister this week.

Since July 22, when St Kitts relaunched its cruise industry, the country has received 21 cruise ship calls from several cruise partners.

“We continue to move forward in the right direction,” Edwards said.

AIDAperla had 1,675 passengers, Celebrity Equinox 1, 835 and Explorer of the Seas 1,794 bringing the total to 5,304.

St Kitts will receive a total of 28 cruise calls this month, amounting to 72,163 passengers, according to data from the St Kitts Tourism Authority.
