Sonesta has expanded its hotel in Cartagena, Colombia, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The property had debuted a $2.5 million project that has added a new eight-story, 34-room tower.

That raises the total number of rooms at the hotel to 152.

The beachfront property is operated by GHL Hotels.

“This new tower reinforces the attractiveness of the hotel by further driving economic reactivation around travel, gastronomy and tourist services,” said Alejandro Sanchez, general manager of Sonesta Cartagena.

“We have increased our room inventory by 30 percent and our supply of beds by 33 percent at a time when investment in hotel projects is not common,” Sanchez said. “It is a serious and firm commitment to promote tourism and continue to attract not only travelers but also greater real estate investment to the region.”
