Puerto Rico’s dramatic surge in air passenger traffic has shown no signs of slowing down.

The island’s primary airport, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, reported passenger traffic of 935,781 in August, which represented a 14.8 percent improvement over the same month in 2019 — before the onset of the pandemic.

Unsurprisingly, it also represented a 323.8 percent increase over the same month in 2020.

For the year, air traffic in San Juan is nearly even with the first eight months of 2019, just 0.2 percent lower — for a total of 6.49 million.

The airport is managed by Mexico-based ASUR, which also operates a number of airports across Mexico.

The numbers are “reflecting a continued recovery in travel demand in general,” ASUR said in a statement.
