Royal Caribbean International has officially returned to Grand Bahama.

The cruise line’s Adventure of the Seas completed its inaugural home-porting ceremony on the island this week, with 1,000 passengers sailing out of the ship’s new homeport in Nassau.

It marked the return of cruising to Grand Bahama after a 16-month hiatus amid the pandemic.

It’s also a major step forward for Freeport Harbour, following the challenges for the island in the wake of Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

“We believe this homeporting project will have an immediate impact on the rebound of the Bahamian economy. We express our collective gratitude towards our partners at Royal Caribbean for the long-standing relationship spanning more than 50 years,” said Bahamas Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar.

Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas is sailing seven-night getaways from Nassau, including two back-to-back days at its Perfect Day at CocoCay private island, a stop in Cozumel and a full day in Grand Bahama.
