Barbados Welcomes Back First Cruise Ship

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 8, 2021

The first cruise ship has called on Barbados since the beginning of the pandemic back in 2020.

Celebrity Millennium, the first ship to sail in the Western Hemisphere since March 2020, called on Barbados this week as part of a seven-night sailing from St Maarten.

Around 95 percent of its passengers — and all of its crew — have been vaccinated.

Barbados was the first stop for the ship, requiring all adults passengers on the ship to present negative PCR tests to enter Barbados.

All adults passengers were required to show proof of vaccination before boarding in St Maarten.

“As we reopen our borders and look to restart tourism on island, the health and safety of Barbadians and visitors remain paramount to what we do and how we do things,” said Barbados Tourism Minister Lisa Cummins. “We have to prepare to welcome visitors again, not just for our institutions, not just for the Bridgetown Port, but for the many people whose livelihoods have depended on our ability to do that.”

Celebrity Millennium is also visiting Aruba and Curacao this week.
