Puerto Rico Air Traffic Continues to Grow

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - May 6, 2021 - 10:28 am

It was another solid month of air traffic for Puerto Rico’s primary airport, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, according to new data from ASUR.

In fact, San Juan saw a higher passenger total than the same period in March 2019 — before the pandemic.

The airport reported 765,561 passengers in March, a 1.7 percent increase over March 2019 (and, unsurprisingly, a massive jump over the 40,362 passengers handled in March 2020).

Puerto Rico officially reopened for tourism in the second half of last year.

Since then, it’s been one of the best-peforming destinations in the Caribbean, along with the US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic.
